Types of Searches at CSU

Standard National Search

This is the default search process at CSU. As an equal access, equal opportunity and affirmative action employer, our default is always a standard, national search process where we advertise the position broadly and look for a large, diverse pool of applicants. Standard searches use the search committee model where the committee makes their final recommendation to a hiring authority.

  • Search Committee Model
    • Minimum three committee members, including a chair who must be search chair trained.
    • Hiring authority is not apart of the committee.
    • Must include an EO Coordinator.
  • Advertising Period
    • Administrative Professionals
      • 3 weekends, 2 weeks
    • Faculty – Tenure Track
      • 4 weekends, 3 weeks
    • Faculty – CCAF
      • 3 weekends, 2 weeks
  • Recruitment
    • Must advertise in at least one additional recruitment venue
    • Automatically listed to:
      • Connecting Colorado
      • HigherEdJobs

Accelerated Search 

The accelerated search may be used for non-director Administrative Professional positions that pay $80,000 or less. The accelerated process uses a supervisory search model where the the hiring authority and at least one other person make all of the hiring decisions.

  • Supervisory model
    • Hiring authority and at least one other individual serve as the ‘search committee’.
    • Hiring authority does not need to be search chair trained though it’s highly encouraged.
    • EO Coordinator must be included in the process.
  • Advertising Period
    • Administrative Professionals
      • 2 weekends, 1 week
  • Recruitment
    • Must advertise in at least one additional recruitment venue
    • Automatically listed to:

Internal Search 

Internal searches are those for which the hiring authority wishes to fill a vacant position with a current CSU employee. If approved by OEO, the unit may run a competitive search that is internal to the unit, College or Division, or CSU using the search committee model.

  • Search Committee Model
    • Minimum three committee members, including a chair who must be search chair trained.
    • Hiring authority is not apart of the committee.
    • Must include an EO Coordinator.
  • Advertising Period
    • Administrative Professionals
      • 2 weekends, 1 week
    • Faculty
      • 2 weekends, 1 week
    • Close Posting Date is the same date as Full Consideration Date
  • Recruitment
    • Must state in the Recruitment Plan field in TMS how the department plans to advertise this position to internal applicants.
    • Automatically listed to the CSU Internal Job Board. 
  • Minimum Qualifications
    • Must state “Must be a CSU employee”

Limited Recruitment Search

    • Automatically listed to:

    • May limit travel funds to $350 (must be stated in the posting)
